Popular education....crucial in any strategy

Somehow, we need to mobilise resources to support broad based popular education...

Who will finance this?

Financing may take a while but I think we may be able to learn from our neighbours. Pointe-St-Charles popular education program started on less than a shoe string budget back in the 1970s. Their focus at first was literacy and learning how to empower citizens in the neighbourhood. They still exist today. The biggest hurdle would be to find volunteers to facilitate sessions. The other hurdle is to find public space (at low cost) to host these efforts.....maybe there is a space at 780 St-Remi.

Volunteer burnout in the face of general apathy

Messagepar JNvillage » Ven Juil 25, 2008 10:34 pm

What's frustrating is the general apathy and state of denial that people, even those who will be most affected by the expropriations, etc. seem submerged in. It still isn't real for them and when the bulldozers are at the door, they'll wonder why nobody did anything.

The few active volunteers in this fight are getting increasingly discouraged by the lack of support and resources available to them and need to see more people get involved. I personally think that private companies and/or professionals in the area have something (expertise, resources) to contribute to the cause. There is so much potential for a real revolution in how we see transportation in this city. We need to seize this opportunity to make a radical change for the better. Public information/publicity campaigns that will excite and engage the public (and counter the propaganda coming from the MTQ) are what we need. People need to feel that they have a fighting chance in this battle. For now, I think people are giving up before they even try... We need a leader, a visionary who will champion the cause...

Yea, I agree, there needs to be some kind of leadership, but more importantly is numbers. You have to look like a real movement and not just a few bitter disgruntled folks who will have to move. I would bet there are more people who would support this than any of us might guess. The trick just might be to light a little fire, get people to actually believe that good things can happen if we make an effort. It certainly is time!

Financing of grassroots movement must come from the people initially until we get traction ...ie Media & citizens.... which has begun. Now is the time to UP the VISIBILITY factor via mass visits as was done at the Atwater market.

Global warming is a change that has negative consequences. It is said that global warming is the main reason the issue of emissions of greenhouse gases. Ranging from decades to hundreds and thousands of years, greenhouse gases can remain in the atmosphere for several years. What we can do to stop global warming effects, some effects of global warming will still be there. Lot of Ad are been created, but very few of them have created the awareness of global warming in the people.
